Music is my Passion by blacklady-vip Music is my Passion by blacklady-vip
Music has such a power over people. Music can completely change your feelings. It can make you angry, sad, happy or give you hope. And thus it can change the way you act completely. I love listening to music. It's undescribable when you listen to some songs which have your current mood.

Finally another work :D

I wanted to make a different work, with an atmosphere different from all my other works. So, warmer colors, and of course two dominating colors, not only one. And no blue or brown as dominating colors, as always before...

I've used a couple of references:
For the girl I took a package from TwiggXstock for reference: twiggxstock.deviantart.com/art…
The headphones are from TheWonderfulHermit: thewonderfulhermit.deviantart.… I do not own such headphones but maybe I'll manage to make some looking like this. They're great.
And the fabric in the background was inspired by dahlig's painting: blackeri.deviantart.com/art/Ju…
And the rest is appearing in my room or done without reference.

Hope you like it. Please comment.

I really like the balance of the two dominating colors in this work - they help draw a line between the indoor background and whatever might be beyond the window, and really bring out the figure of the girl. I just have a couple of comments:

The fabric background to the left works well, but it also creates a lot of empty space. It seems like the girl should be more centered, and we should perhaps see a bit more of the window and the world beyond (especially given the title of this piece - since the girl's eyes are closed, can we assume she's oblivious to anything that may be happening outside? If so, what's "outside" that's lost in the music?). I think moving the left edge of the frame about to about the last diagonal fold in the fabric might help fill the space more.

The picture might also use more texture. I know nothing about digital painting, but most of the surfaces seem a bit too smooth. The girl's anatomy and features look great, and her hair very realistic - you want to tuck the wisps back behind her ear or something - but, for instance, it's hard to tell what kind of fabric makes up her shirt, or the background. One suggestion would be to enhance the way the window light reflects off everything inside - perhaps make the headphones brighter and more metallic, the shadows in the background darker to suggest velvet or more rigid for canvas, etc (is the background transparent or is there a reflection?). Adding brighter highlights to her skin too would help bring out muscle tone and give a deeper, more naturally translucent look. Of course, it would also depend on the kind of light coming in through the window.

Those are the two things that stand out most to me. Otherwise, though, as far as color and composition, this is a very pleasing picture to the eye. As I said, too, I don't know much about digital painting! I hope this is helpful!

Thank you for your feedback, and yes, it was helpful. There have been several people who already wrote a critique but no one noticed the problem with the image section yet. But you're right, I wanted to cut more of the left area, but the I liked the way the fabric looked like, so I didn't want to delete it.

Stunning, I love the mood, I hear the music blaring in my ears right now as a part of this image's soundtrack, this is great, and since I read LONG descriptions, I would love to see your process for this piece.

Wow, the face is really striking. And I love the hair, really great. Points of attention are her body, the lines are not as sharp as the face, and thus the overall feel is distorted. Her top also hand to the right a bit too much in my opinion. I didn't like the background at first but looking at it more makes me see it's actually very well executed. Though to really get the attention of the viewer on the front, I suggest doing a little box blur on the background. It may feel like you're destroying hard work, but the realism you create is worth a lot.

Keep up the good work.

Hi, and thanks for your feedback. I heard the point with the less sharp shoulder several times up to now, and you're right, I was a bit lazy whith it. I surely will fix that point if I go over the painting again - usually I don't change anything once I've finished but here I probably will.

This pretty spectacular. Overall I love it. I think her skin is amazing. The anatomy is overall good. Hair, fabric great. I also like the atmosphere including the breeze on the curtain.

But isn't the relationship between the tendons of her neck in relation to where the collar bones meet a little off? Also, I'm not sure why the right strap of her shirt would have quite that much of a wrinkle. I suppose her shoulder is coming forward a bit but not quite that much, at least to my eye. Finally, the contrast on her jaw might be a bit too contrasty for the soft light. You can see I'm grasping at straws for anything critical to say.

Hi, thanks for the contructive feedback.
I think the problem with the collarbones is that the shadows are actually a bit wrong. She should be turned more to the viewer than it looks like now. I changed the light sources slightly during the painting process. First, the light sources were closer to the viewer, and thus the cleavage was much brighter. It should be even darker now.

Aww, this painting definitely has an atmosphere! The warm, down-to-earth colors create it well and the composition of this picture is also very much to my liking!
The translucent curtains are quite lovely in my opinion:) It makes the background more interesting.
You've paid a lot of attention to making sure that light works well in this picture:clap: The soft shading works really well.
In fact, there isn't too much you could do to imporve it=D

It could just be me, but I feel like the woman's neck and arms are both a little thin, and the shape of her left shoulder (from our point of view) is different from the right. The part of her face between her upper lip and nostrils seems kind of... Straight and thus oddly shaped to me, too. Otherwise I think her profile is charming and you've given her a lovely skin color.
BTW, I love that sort of hair that's been tied to a bun, especially when it's drawn realistically like here=D It gives her a relaxed look.
I would've also given her a necklace or done something else to add a little bit more detail to her chest, neck and sholders area, but it's probably just me and my personal preferences.

Thanks for the feedback. This helps me a lot, and you analysed the work very well. I'm glad you like the overall work.

You're right, I neglected her neck and arm a bit. The more time you spend on a work, the better it gets, unfortunately I'm a bit impatient in this respect. I didn't even recognize the strange looking upper lip up to now, but you're right, thanks for drawing attention to it. It must be something I rubbed out accidentally and didn't recognize.

Really smooth lines in the figure, but I wish that was extended to the background. The shaky, hasty lines of the curtain and the blotchy wall back there are undermining the subtle beauty of this piece. I like the way you captured the diffuse lighting on the figure though, and included so much detail in the headphones. It just needs a small amount more work to be really finished.

Hi, and thanks for your comment, I appreciate it a lot.
I intended the background to be more sketchy, less detailed, to focus on the figure and not to distract to much with the background (pieces in which everything is so detailed and of the same brightness are sometimes an overkill for the eye). But maybe here this wouldn't be the case, because of the darker background.
Thanks for the suggestion, I will realize it if I've got the time.

Gorgeous painting. I totally agree with you, that music influences your emotions.
It's good how you've taken the fabric ideas from blackeri, quite adaptive, and it works very well here.
The figure is very accurate. Her hair is great, although you could have brought out just a bit more light, if you'd have wanted to. Her skin is an odd colour, but I'm guessing that's to fit with your colour scheme. The eyebrows stand out as if they've had less time spent on them than the rest of the face. And, though this is just opinion, I think if her eyes were slightly open, it would be more interesting, as you wouldn't quite be able to tell her mood. I believe that would go well with your theme, the idea that music can detach you.
The shoulder part of her vest is very sketchy, but that sort of works here. Just a bit more detail, so it fits in, would make it stand out less though. She doesn't have much detail across her chest, few shadows. I would also suggest some imperfections, like freckles or slightly uneven skintone.
But this is a lovely painting, with a great mood. Well done :huggle:

Thanks for your critique. It helps me a lot.
I didn't really know which details I should add to her shoulder, but maybe it suffices if the lines are defined more clearly, bordering it from the background and if I add some more shadows?
And you're right, I didn't spend much time on her eyebrows. It's funny how such small things catch other's eyes. Maybe I should put more effort into such details...
